Laser Tattoo Removal After Care Instructions

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Here at New Look Laser Tattoo Removal we try to keep all the steps in laser tattoo removal as simple as possible. With the newest technology in tattoo removal lasers, the skin is able to heal fairly quickly and easily. Our clients are back to their normal routines almost immediately so that laser tattoo removal does not interfear with all the more important things we have going on in our lives.

Having said that, the after care instructions are basically a couple steps:

1. Right after your laser treatment, we will put an over the counter antibiotic ointment like Neosporin over the entire lasered area. We will place a bandage on it as well.

2. You will want to keep the area covered with a bandage for three days after your treatment putting neosporin or triple antibiotic cream over the area 2-3 times per day.

3. After the three days are over, leave the area open to the air and do not put any additional antibiotic cream in on it so that it will dry out and heal up more quickly. There is sometimes a temptation to leave it covered for longer but don’t, the air circulation is good for healing.

4. Continue with your normal activities of daily living and return to New Look for your next session at the scheduled time. You are one step closer to having that tattoo removed!

Can you remove an entire tattoo? What if I only want a small portion removed?

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

We can remove your entire tattoo. Some colors are easier to remove than others but given enough treatments we entire tattoos be removed every day. Take a look at our before and after pictures to get an idea of what our laser can do for you.

What if I only want a portion of my tattoo removed? That is not a problem. We often have clients that only want lettering removed from their tattoo or want certain colors removed. We can do that. There is actually an example of someone who wanted certain colors removed from his tattoo on our before and after page that you should take a look at.

Remember black and red are the easiest colors to remove 100% of the way and green and blue are the hardest and may never remove completely but will certainly be faded. Come in for a complimentary consultation and we can give you a good estimate on how many treatments it will take to remove your tattoo and how well the treatment will work for you.

Allergy to Your Tattoo

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Are you allergic to your tattoo? A small percentage of our patients are removing their tattoo because they have developed a strong allergic reaction to their tattoo. For most of these tattoo removal patients, they have received their tattoo within the last month and are experiencing redness, itching, swelling, and discomfort from their tattoo. Red ink is the most common color of tattoo ink that causes an allergy. Allergy to tattoos makes the tattoo removal process somewhat more difficult and uncertain compared to tattoos that are being removed for purely cosmetic reasons. Your immune system is having an allergic reaction to your ink and your body’s ability to flush the ink we shatter out of your body can be complicated by the body’s rejection of the ink. For some patients we will be able to successfully perform a laser treatment on your tattoo and shatter the ink in your tattoo, but the ink will not be flushed through your immune system. This is often difficult to predict but when you come in for a free consultation at New Look we’ll be able to discuss some of these issues with you.

Why are Green and Blue Tattoos Difficult to Remove?

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

In the field of laser tattoo removal, most colors of tattoo ink can be removed completely: red, black, purple, brown, orange, pink, and several others. However, a few colors are very difficult to remove completely, no matter what laser is being used. Blue and green are the colors most frequently seen as impossible to remove completely, although in some rare cases (very old tattoo, a tattoo that is already very faded) completely removal may be possible.

Here’s the physics explanation of why: matter absorbs certain wavelengths of light, reflects others, etc. Regarding the visible spectrum of light (color that we can see) certain objects like an apple absorb all colors and reflect back red. The apple isn’t really red, it just appears to be red. The same with tattoo ink – a blue or green pigment particle that makes up a tattoo absorbs a range of colors and reflects back that color that appears to our eye.

Tattoo removal lasers generally use wavelengths of light that are not able to be absorbed by the pigment in blue and green tattoos. It is the absorption of energy by tattoo ink that causes the ink to heat up very quickly and shatter. The Medlite C6 has dye handpieces that are able to do a modest job of removing blue and green ink, and the Affinity QS can be used in a way that will also provide modest fading of some blue and green ink.

Reason for Laser Tattoo Removal in Austin

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Most people that have a tattoo they no longer desire have pretty clear reasons for looking to remove a tattoo. We’ve seen that these reasons vary widely, but many Austin tattoo removal patients are experiencing some similar motivations. Here are a couple:

(1) Tattoo removal allows patients to have more control over their clothing options. Women especially find that styles change and the attractive style of 5 years ago that covered their tattoo might no longer be hip. These days, an open back or very short sleeves or dozens of other features might make a tattoo visible were these clothes to be worn. So, the style that would otherwise be very appealing might not be selected because of concerns over the visibility of the tattoo. Austin men experience the desire for laser tattoo removal when a new job and the accompanying work uniform or dress code make their tattoo no longer appropriate.

(2) Many new mothers in Austin want to remove their tattoo. They selected a tattoo as a form of body art when they were young, single, and more carefree. Now, they are reassessing their priorities and have concerns over the message a tattoo may send to their young children. Parents might be happy with decisions they made for themselves, but regret how those decisions might impact their children. Tattoo removal offers a solution.

New Look Laser Tattoo Removal in Austin exclusively offers tattoo removal services. It’s all we do, and we get great results for our patients.
